Oriflame India joins hands with Deepalaya to educate girls

The relevance of a girl child's education cannot be undermined. Though it is of foremost importance for the balanced growth of any society, ironically, it has been ignored in our country. Taking an initiative in this direction, Swedish direct selling cosmetic brand Oriflame's India chapter has recently launched its Oriflame Girl Child project.
Sponsoring education
The project intends to sponsor the education of as many as 1000 girls in the country for a period of three years. For this, it has tied up with Deepalaya, a Delhi-based non-governmental organisation working in the field of education. Present at the launch in New Delhi the other day were Tomas Eriksson, Managing Director, Oriflame India, the recently appointed brand ambassador and spokesperson, Malaika Arora Khan and T.K. Mathew, Secretary and Chief Executive, Deepalaya.
Speaking on the occasion, Tomas said, "India has recently been declared by UNICEF as the country with highest number of illiterates in the world, two-third of them are girls. Our effort through this project would be to educate and prepare these girls for a better future." Oriflame has been actively participating in such social activities in other countries too. The project is not only their first Indian venture but also the biggest one, aimed at making a difference to the lives of economically deprived girls.
The occasion was made livelier by an outstanding performance of the Deepalaya girl students. The event commenced with the recital of traditional Saraswati Vandana. The main performance which left the audience spellbound was the folk dance by the youngsters. Meeting the style diva, Malaika Arora was an enthralling experience for these girls.
"I am really honoured to be a part of this project and would contribute in whatever way I can for this good cause," said Malaika.
The project with the punch line, "Teach me to write and I will write my destiny", has already contributed Rs.2.7 crore to Deepalaya for the cause.
Chipping in, T.K. Mathew said, "This initiative will be of great help to our mission in promoting education of children. The cause taken up by Oriflame has set an example for other corporate houses."
