The perfect getaway for writer Anita Nair is her village in Kerala
|
HOMEWARD SOUND Anita Nair
For Anita Nair, home is where the heart is. Jet setting across continents, for book readings and writer's meets, discussions with agents and interacting with readers, life does get hectic for the writer. That is when the Bangalore-based writer decides to switch off, and head straight for her village in verdant Kerala, Mundokotukurussi near Otttapalam, where her parents live. Anita talks of her kind of place, the place where she heads to chill out.
Home sweet home
I cease to be everything else when I am at home. I pack my bags every six weeks or so and I go home. Home is at Mundakotukurussi. There is none of the baggage of being a writer, a wife, or a mother; there is no angst of any sort. I can be myself while I am there.
Not a cliché village
It is not at all an idyllic village in the sense that most people expect a village to be. This cliché of the simple untouched villager is utter nonsense. It is a hotbed of every kind of simmering discontent. But the village has lush and untouched greenery. It is a very beautiful place visually.
