An evening of jazz today

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE The group plays both original music and popular numbers by jazz greats

Amidst concert after concert of young, amateur rock bands, here's one for jazz aficionados — the debut concert of Rohit Sailas and the Cantonment Jazz called Summit of Sound.

The group, which is performing at Baldwin Boys' School on July 29, has more than a few decades of musical experience between its members.

Rohit Sailas leads the band on the electric piano and was the founder member of Sardis, a gospel rock band. Sudhakar John plays the flute on the band, something he has done for 20 years. On the drums is Victor Francis, who has performed with popular musicians like Rex Rosario and Thomas Chandy. On bass is Prashant Davidson and on lead guitar is George Christy.

The concert, which begins at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Hall, Baldwin Boys' School, Hosur Road, features original music written by Rohit as well as popular numbers by jazz greats such as Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea and Dizzy Gillespie. A highlight of the event is the music art jugalbandi with artiste Manjula Premkumar.

Entry for the concert is by invitation only. For free invites, contact 988689921 or email rsailas@hotmail.com
