EKTAA HAS A PARTNER!
Smriti Irani is co-producing Ektaa Kapoor's latest serial "Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasman" (TZTA) for Star Plus. The serial, which will be premiered on August 19, is about Umadidi, a 27-year-old daughter of a mill-worker, who undertakes several jobs to run the family ever since the mill closed down. Set in the heart of Mumbai, in a chawl, the story is about the trials and tribulations of common man. Smriti plays Uma. The story and screenplay is by acclaimed writer Kailash Pandey, who also did the screenplay for this year's blockbuster "Rang de Basanti". Says Smriti: "It is a big break for me to be associated as a co-producer with Ektaa and Balaji Films and both of us are conceptualising the show.
THE DIVIDING LINE
When does the thin dividing line between news and entertainment blur? These days, news channels are promoting Hollywood and Bollywood movies in a big way, under the tag "exclusive". To promote Bollywood's big movies, special promos and content are made exclusively for the television audience. Recently, to promote "Fanaa", Yashraj Films (the producer) showed Aamir Khan and Kajol engaged in a candid conversation. Many channels such as NDTV, Sony and MTV ran this promo as an "exclusive"! News channels seem to be constantly on the look out for such entertainment contents to fill up the slots. And the film producers are only too happy with the free publicity. From today, watch out for the promos of Karan Johar's "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna"!
ENTERTAINMENT ON SUNDAY
Sun TV is trying out something new by moving all its Film-Based Programmes (FBP) to Sunday! It is a bold decision since a market survey recently found that FBPs do better on holidays, while the primetime on weekdays is ruled by the soaps. After the channel launched actor Meena's serial "Lakshmi" on weekdays (8.30 p.m.), it has shifted the existing FBPs to Sunday -- such as "Ungal Choice" (10.30 a.m.), "Thirai Vimarsanam" 3.30 p.m.) and "Top 10" (8.30 p.m.).
A FAMILY DRAMA
"Ammathamburatti" (Monday to Friday, 9.30 p.m.) on Asianet is a family drama that has caught the attention of the viewers in Kerala because of its star cast and presentation. Directed by the veteran Sreekumaran Thampi, the serial has Sreevidya, Sukumari, Sreeja Chandran and Venu Nagavally in the lead. The story is about Laksmi Bai Thampuratti (Sreevidya) of a royal family, who elopes with her lover to Baroda and returns to her palace after 20 years. She faces problems from youngsters in the family, who have usurped her wealth and the story is about the family infighting.
