The Chennai Apparel Association held a three-day B2B exhibition, the city's first Fashion Garment Fair with more than 80 participants at the Rajah Muthiah and Rani Meyammai Halls. For retailers, there was a range of the latest brands to choose from. Since customers will hopefully clear the stocks during the Adi sale, the organisers decided July was the best time to show retailers the wide choice they had.
There were ties, shirts, jeans (from both big brands like Lee and names you haven't heard off), ethnic wear from brands that had come from Mumbai and children's clothing. The sherwanis had a lot of glitter on them. And the suits had subtle, shiny threads woven into them. For men, the trend seemed to suggest adventure. There were contrasting collars, floral prints, lovely whites and linens from Anate, besides Oxemberg's and Venfield's smart new ranges. Chennai's own Naidu Hall had a big presence too in the fair. The event provided a platform for the country's garment manufacturers, retailers and distributors to come together. After all, it's not for nothing that South India, and Chennai, in particular, is known as a garment manufacturing hub.
It was a good time to show off too. A fashion show sponsored by Trigger jeans was organised at the Taj Connemara, exclusively for the participants of the garment fair.
