It doesn't break the mould, but `Amma Cheppindi' is an insightful effort

TWO TO LEARN Shriya Reddy and Sharwanand have fun in 'Amma Cheppindi'
Amma Cheppindi isn't a path-breaking movie but it's a unique story and a tremendously compelling piece released last week. The first half seems long and filled with voluminous narration but the screenplay itself is thoughtful and meaningful. It gives an insight into the mother and son relationship.
It begins with a mother desperately seeking to give her child-like son a normal upbringing and society's part in thwarting her effort. The screenplay deals a lot with selfish people and in addition makes a statement that sometimes a vastly underrated person can achieve something beyond what normal people can do and in director Gangaraju's words: "It's not what you have been gifted with, but what you make of the gifts you have."
Amma Cheppindi benefits from some noteworthy performances from many familiar faces. In short, their efficient work gives this movie some extra profundity.
The competently staged finale, which is exhilarating alone makes this film worth seeing. Sharwanand, the lead character, is awesome and takes you on this dreamy little trip and suddenly there is a tonal shift as reality kicks in and during the last 30 minutes, you're sucked into something that you never saw coming.
Director Gunnam Gangaraju's says, "I had this script ready six years back, but I couldn't find anyone to back the project." He says he is happy with the encouraging response but wants more people to watch it . Finally if you want to watch an entertaining and an engaging film packed with `substance' make sure to add Amma Cheppindi to your `hit list' of movies...it's your ticket to an enjoyable experience.
