Stone lore
There is nothing like precious and semi-precious stones, as traders often advertise.
Precious gemstones are those fine specimens, rare and in constant demand. They include only diamond, ruby, emerald, sapphire, and chrysoberyl.
All others are classified as semi-precious.
So terms like semi-precious emerald is wrong as emerald is always precious.
It is usual to substitute a precious gem with another one of the same colour but less expensive.
There are no separate gemstones for each birth star.
Just because two people are born on the same day, same month, under the same star, the problems and experiences may not be similar.
Tips for shoppers
See that the gemstone you buy is natural and get it weighed.
Look for cracks or fissures on the gemstones. For this you may have to get the help of an expert.
Ask for the certificate of a recognised gemmologist. The certificate, which can be cross checked, will have all the required information regarding the stone.
Always ask the seller if he would take back the gemstone in case it is found to be defective. Most of the genuine sellers would agree to this.
Gemstones come at varying prices. It depends on the weight, colour and lustre. So there is bound to be different prices for the same gem.
