The best of Hollywood
PIX, Sony's new English movie channel, showcases the best from Hollywood. The popular talk show, "Inside the Actor's Studio", (Sunday, 7 p.m.) was launched with the first episode featuring Angelina Jolie as the celebrity guest. It was followed by an episode with Jennifer Lopez and Johnny Depp where they chatted with host James Lipton. "Inside the Actor's Studio" is a unique talk show that has been on air in the U.S. for more than 11 years and is now broadcast in over 125 countries. James Lipton has interviewed more than 200 of the world's most talented and accomplished artistes, ranging from actors and directors to musicians and comedians. While other Hollywood talk shows focus on gossip and glitz, this show focusses on the art of acting.
A New team
One of the biggest problems that channels face now is the moment a music or game show becomes popular, its anchors start demanding more. the moon. Vijay TV's "Kalakkapovathu Yaar" (Friday, 10 p.m.) has replaced its earlier anchors (Chinni Jayanth, Madan Bob and Uma Riaz Khan) with an all-new team comprising Pandiarajan, Sadagopan Ramesh (second innings) and Swarnamalya. Pandiarajan says: "Initially, I was a bit hesitant when I got the call as it was already a successful show. Since I am a director myself, I was confident I could judge the contestants. I am happy with the new team." Sadagopan Ramesh is equally enthusiastic about being on the show again. Let us hope the new team of "Kalakkapovathu Yaar-2" sticks together for some time"
Four more shows
The competition in the news channels segment is becoming stiffer. Times Now, the 24-hour English news channel, is going in for a revamp just a few months after its launch. To give the channel a crisp look, four new shows have been introduced Business Buzz, The Game, Live Report and News Now Morning. According to Sunil Lulla, CEO: "The focus of Times Now's programmes will be on providing viewers with more news and insights on politics, sports, topics of general interest and business."
The four new shows add to the quality of information our viewers need."
Joint venture
Madhur Bhandarkar, one of the most successful new-age directors in Hindi cinema, is now getting into television. He has joined hands with Percept Picture Company (PPC) and announced a joint venture, Madhur Bhandarkar Motion Pictures Ltd, which will produce television serials, feature films, advertising films, plays and other related content. Madhur feels television is the fastest growing entertainment medium in India.
