Ajay in action

THE SELLING POINT Ajay Devgan

In today's world, the better you market a product, greater the chance of registering sales. The trick actually lies in brand creation and promoting it in the right manner. That is why we have Bollywood stars and cricketers in various ads and promotional campaigns. Day-by-day, these campaigns are getting more creative. For instance, Bagpiper's `Ajay Se Panga'. Attempting to deliver something different, the creative heads behind the promotion organised an event in Noida this past week where actor Ajay Devgan and his stunt men took `panga' as part of a contest called `Ajay Se Panga'. The event showcased zonal level winners of the contest taking part in the mega finals, which was actually the so-called `panga' with Ajay and his men. `Panga' loosely translates to harmless fun or adventure.

According to the organisers, the zonal level winners who took `panga' with Ajay and his men were selected from a pre,i,inary level contest held across 400 towns. It included bike-revving and glass shattering among other stunts. Some of the participants even hurt themselves during the event. Salil, a participant from Patiala, was at the event to relate how he was hit under his eyes and had sustained injuries in the preliminary round. Organisers said that the criteria for selection were style, timing and hitting the target. The mega finals had two rounds, which included a shoot-out between the two teams and the `tug of war'.

All eyes on him

But all eyes were on Ajay. Excited spectators were seen watching the famous star in action. Though the actor's participation in the game was formal, he was nonchalantly holding the rope in the `tug of war' and kept himself away from the other events. Replying to questions from media on his involvement with the promotion of liquor brands like Bagpiper, he clarified, "I am not insisting anyone to start drinking; I am just trying to tell people that this is a good brand."

Instead, he talked about his latest movie, Omkara., "It's a good movie, we have worked hard and hope it would fetch better results at the box office," said Ajay. Known as an action-hero, Ajay said he will be seen in two more such films. "I am working on two projects; Saamna directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and the other one (unnamed) by Abbas-Mustan, both are action movies." In Saamna, Ajay will be seen with Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai.
