Let go and lighten up

The Kshitija Nesara Dhama at Othinane is an ideal place to unwind over a weekend

ON A HIGH The Dhama is on a small hill, from where you can have a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea

To be in the midst of a place of lush greenery, where coconut trees bend backwards due to the pace of the wind and where the sky and the sea meet, is an unforgettable experience. And you don't need to go far for this experience, just 92 km from Udupi to Kshitija Nesara Dhama at Othinane is enough.

Take a left turn on the Udupi-Bhatkal NH 17 at Othinane and the Kshitija Nesara Dhama is about 1.5 km from Shiroor. You can also use the Konkan Railway and get down at Byndoor and take a taxi from there to Kshitija Nesara Dhama.

The Dhama is run by the Department of Forests. The department has constructed some rooms and a canteen for those who want to enjoy their stay at this scenic locale. The rooms and the fare in the canteen are modestly priced.

All is calm and peace. Here you can only hear the gentle whisper of the sea breeze. Just as you wander to the western side, you are awe-struck by the seascape. The Dhama is on a small hill, from where you can have a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea.

The department has thoughtfully provided sheltered seats where you can enjoy the cool evening breeze. But do not forget to watch the sunset, which many people come to this place to see. If you are among those who love the sea, there are steps from the Dhama right down the hill which take you straight to Othinane beach. The climb back uphill may be slightly taxing but it is worth the trouble.
