India special on Nat Geo

National Geographic Channel will telecasting a five-part series called Emerging India to mark Independence Day. The telecasts will be from August 14 to 18 at 10 p.m. and will include movies that feature everything from call centres to computer literacy among children.

The series begins with The Hole In The Wall, where researcher Sugata Mitra experiments and attempts to answer the question, "Can children really teach themselves the rudiments of computer literacy with no instruction?"

The critically acclaimed Bombay Calling, directed by Canadian-Indian Samir Malla, is about young people's lives at call centres and BPOs. Stuntmen of Bollywood features the dangerous lives Indian stuntmen lead to make the leading actors appear as heroes on the silver screen. Mumbai is about the suburban railway, which keeps India's commercial capital ticking and the new plans being made for the metropolis. Finally, Hot Science chronicles the strides being made by popular science in India.
