BIG PREMIERE

Bollywood's biggest box-office grosser of the year "Rang De Basanti" (`RDB') is being premiered on STAR Plus on August 20, at 12 noon. For STAR Plus, it is a coup of sorts and the channel is said to have paid Rs. 10 crore for the satellite rights. Says Deepak Segal, executive vice-president, content, STAR India: "The satellite premiere of the film is yet another endeavour on our part to offer viewers compelling entertainment on the small screen." "RDB" on Star Plus is sure to kindle your spirits in tricolor of passion, pride and patriotism.

SUDHA CHANDRAN IN A TAMIL SERIAL

Sudha Chandran, the noted dancer, who last did a Tamil film nearly 12 years ago, is now all set to act in a Tamil serial titled Jaiyam," to be premiered shortly on Jaya TV. Prabhu Nepal of Jakaarb Telefilms is introducing Sudha, a top TV artiste in Hindi soaps, to Tamil. She plays the central character of Ranganayaki, a strong willed woman from an aristocratic family in Thanjavur. Due to circumstances, she is forced to shift base to Chennai and has to start life afresh. The serial will have a good dose of Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam. Several leading dancers and singers will make guest appearances. The show will be shot on a set and Jaiyam" will have a rich look with costumes and jewellery never seen before in Tamil serials.

Channel wars

A bitter battle is brewing among Hindi channels as the small screen is all about the big game of TRP. The last few months have witnessed some major changes in TV rating. While STAR Plus is ruling the roost with its mix of drama, reality, game and comedy shows, there are some changes in the number two slot. Zee TV, which had gone in for a total revamp, has managed to reach the number two position and close on its heels are new players such as Sahara and STAR One. The other channels are facing the problem of viewer fatigue as new entrants are making their presence felt with innovative programming. The latest we hear is that all major entertainment channels are planning to revamp to get enough eyeballs as the festival season starts from September and ads will start flowing in.
