Finally, Galli Galli Sim Sim, the Indian edition of the famous kids' telly series, Sesame Street will see the light of day this Independence Day. Making its Indian debut on Cartoon Network at 1 p.m. this Tuesday, Galli Galli... is made for Turner India by the production house
Miditech with support from Sesame Workshop, the NGO which holds the show's copyright. The show aims at developing social, emotional and cognitive skills in both school-goers and pre-schoolers aged between two and six years. The show will air on Pogo too.
For kids
Anshuman Mishra, Managing Director, Turner India, says, "Harnessing the power of television, we aim to make Galli Galli Sim Sim an integral part of the lives of children in India.
It is a joyful learning programme for kids, and it will develop their life skills." The first season of the show will have 65 episodes of 30 minute each aired in Hindi with some use of English words.
Niret Alva, president of Miditech, which took a lot of time to build elaborate sets for the show at Eagle Studio in Noida, says, "It has been a very exciting and inspiring experience for all of us at Miditech to produce this series that celebrates the creative diversity of India.
" The programme represents the Indian gali and the reality of daily life for most people in the country. Misra says, "The show will transcend socio-economic barriers and will feature animated segments and live action films with music and stories."
For the Indian series, four Muppet characters - Googly, Chamki, Aanchoo and Boombah - have been created.
Indian adaptation
Sesame Street, the parent show in America born over 37 years ago, reaches around 120 countries, and each has a particular theme. In India, this programme will work on topics like early literacy, creative thinking and analysis, family and community life, healthy habits and appreciating educational activity.
