Fashion. Everybody loves to follow the latest in vogue. If they tell you they are not `really interested in fashion', don't believe them for it may be the fashion to say that!

The Hindu Metro Plus Lifestyle to be opened Thursday next, on August 17 at the International Stadium, Kaloor, was kicked off with a fashion show of a different kind, on Saturday night at the Taj Residency, where the who's who of the city converged for infotainment and dinner.

Gizmos show

City folks are used to fashion shows where clothes are shown, so it was somewhat new and unexpected to watch glamour wedded to gizmos, courtesy Samsung, the presenting sponsors of The Hindu Metroplus Lifestyle show. Glitzy settings and cool confines, with the raindrops keeping rhythm, compere Ketki ushered in the models who not only catwalked, but danced, and had fun on the ramp, modelling the latest sleek mobile phones, sleeker LCD TV models, Yepp MP3 players, camcorders, cameras.

If it was clothes the audience came to see they could too. The models sashayed down in micro-minis, shorts and short tops with their male counterparts, cooing into the mobiles, doing a jig.

17 models

Unlike the usual rigmarole, the 17 models catwalked in, sometimes in small groups, sometimes solo, and the audience really did have an eyeful. And in between compere Ketki livened up the scene with mini quizzes. Little Angeline Marie Paul, all of six, won the prize for wearing a skirt, the colour of the Samsung logo. She won a DVD while Arul Xavier won an audio system. A few others who guessed the correct prices of some of their products also won prizes.

Clotheshorses

The second round was confined to clothes, shirts, ties, trousers, all Crocodile products, (associate sponsors of the Lifestyle show) Serene pastels and formal wear, were modelled as `Saara Jahaan Apni nayee' from the movie,'Bluffmaster' permeated the air. When the short and sweet' show got over, it was over to the dinner. Tucking in grilled fish, appam and stew, chicken curry and myriad salads, socialites exchanged pleasantries while the models called it a day. Rahul Dev Shetty choreographed the show. Music, ambience and body language spelt class.

Among the models who walked the ramp at the hall in Taj Residency, hospitality sponsor, were Jackie Besterwich Shetty, Pashmina Barker, Smita Rao, Roshni Dubey, Shwetha, Priya Nayak, Deepika Vasudevan, Kavya Chandavarkar, Shakeel Sheriff, Sunny, Rohit Nair, Syed Mutalib and Sameer Roy Kevin.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is all set for the mega show from August 17 - 21. The other sponsors of the event are Rubber Board (associate Sponsor), BSNL, Planet Yumm, AVT Premium tea and Sabol. The event management is by iCare Communications.
