What's a better deal between the Maruti Swift and the Fiat Palio 1.6 GTX? My running is about 500-700km a month, mostly in the city, with a couple of outstation visits thrown in. I want a car that is easy to maintain and reliable in the long run.

Kunal Gandhi

The Fiat Palio 1.6 GTX is a delight to drive and you will surely enjoy it a lot. However, the Maruti Swift is a more sensible and practical choice. The Palio may beat it for power and handling, but the Swift will give you much better service and eventually, a higher resale value than the Fiat.

How will alloy wheels affect performance and efficiency of my 2004 Tata Indigo LS? The car runs about 50km a day and is subjected to a long trip about once a year. Also, can you suggest some good brands of alloy wheels available in India?

Abhishek Bhilavade

You can go right ahead and fit alloy wheels on your Indigo without any problem. We suggest the `Aura' brand from Hindalco, which should provide long and trouble-free service. Your daily run will be no problem for the alloys; however, do take care not to hit any sharp obstacles, as they could damage your alloys beyond repair.

I hear that the new Honda Accord will soon be launched with changes. Are the changes merely cosmetic? When will it come here and should I wait for it?

Ashok Chopra

Changes to the new Accord are largely cosmetic and hence it is not a significant improvement over the existing model. The new version has revised styling for the boot and rear bumpers and while plans to launch the new Accord are not yet certain, we think it should be out by this Diwali. You could also buy the current Accord just before the new one comes out and push for a heavy discount on the car.

The Toyota Fortuner, was to be out by mid-2006, but there's no sign of this SUV yet. Any news on when it is going to be launched?

Harshvardhan Singh

Sources within Toyota tell us that the Fortuner is on hold as they don't have a team in place to launch the SUV yet. So don't expect it to be launched for at least another year. But rest assured, we'll keep you updated the minute we get concrete news.
