Lights on - on Om Puri

Cinema lovers cannot forget his powerful performance in the film "Ardhsatya". Here's a chance to see and hear the acclaimed actor. "Lights On" will feature Om Puri on August 22 at Sree, Sathyam Cinemas. There will also be a screening (world premiere) of his latest film "The Hangman" directed by Vishal Bhandari. This will be followed by an interactive session with the audience, facilitated by K. Hariharan.

"The Hangman" is a story of crime and punishment and revolves round the life of a man who has executed hundreds of criminals. Forced into the line of work his father and forefathers did, Shiva battles the social stigma that surrounds his job. Though he performs his duty sincerely, every time Shiva prepares the ropes, cleans the scaffold, and tests the levers, he is taken over by guilt. Even his wife Parvathy constantly reminds him of his sins and after-life. Shiva realises that at least his son Ganesh should have a better life and wants him to become a police officer. Ganesh is taken to the city under the guardianship of Shiva's boss, the jailor of the state prison. With the jailor's help, the boy pursues his father's dream. But Shiva's dream is short-lived when a series of unexpected events take place and a new convict is given the death sentence. Once again Shiva prepares for the hanging. But this time it will be different — the convict is the hangman's son.
