The Academy of Modern Dance will trace the evolution of dance through the decades in a show on August 18
|
This is for all those of you hooked onto dance movies. You know the kind: hunky hero lifts, dips and twirls stiletto-shod heroine in time to addictive music. And it's also for those of you who love to dance: whether you'll are gasp-worthy performers or secretive bathroom dancers prone to getting your feet tangled with the bucket.
The Academy of Modern Danse, which operates out of the Russian Cultural Centre, is staging an elaborate dance production this Friday. The show, staged once every two years, brings all school's dance students and teachers on stage: whether they're 4 or forty.
Expect performances set to popular music through the years in this show, which traces dance forms evolving through the decades: the beginning of ballet in the 1920s, the extravagant black and white musicals of the 1940s and of course good old rock and roll in the 1960s. Waft into the 1970s with flower power and songs like Hotel California, before you dive into the flamboyant 80s, with disco, lambada and the beginnings of salsa. Then come the Boy Band fraught 90s and finally today's funky hip hop.
The show will be staged at the Music Academy on August 18 at 7-30. Tickets are available at the Russian Cultural Centre, Landmark in Nungambakkam and The Fruit Shop On Greams Road. Call 9840067123 for more details.
