Lectures on Chennai

A series of talks by eminent personalities from August 20 to mark Madras Week

Madras Musings is celebrating "Madras Week" with a series of lectures on Chennai, from August 20 to 27.

The series will be kicked off by danseuse Lakshmi Viswanathan, who will speak on the topic, "An urban setting for an ancient dance," at The Park, on August 20, at 6.30 p.m. "Songsters of the crossroads: popular literature in Colonial Madras" is the title of the lecture by A. R. Venkatachalapathy, on August 21, 6.30 p.m., at Chamiers.

V. Ramnarayan will speak on "Cricket in Chennai" on August 22, 6.30 p.m. at the Taj Coromandel. Mathew Allen will talk on "Classical Music of South India" on August 23, 6.30 p.m. at Taj Connemara (open only to Madras Book Club members and their guests).

On August 24 (6.30 p.m.), K. Hariharan will present a lecture on "Cinema in Chennai" at Chamiers. The following day, the topic is "Restoring the Senate House" by Kalpana, at 6.15 p.m., at Metropolitan Accord. Theodore Bhaskaran will speak on "History from below: the Roja Muthiah Library of Chennai", at Chamiers, on August 26, 6.30 p.m. The series will conclude with Kanimozhi's lecture on "Poetry in Chennai", on August 27, 4 p.m., at Taj Coromandel.
