Dream team

`Dream Catchers' performed at Casablanca

TWO IS COMPANY Aurotaranti Maiolini and Juliette Katz

As you climb up the stairs to meet the Dream Catchers, you hear strains of melodious music. Seated in a cozy corner, Aurotaranti Maiolini, sporting a cute nose ring, is playing the guitar and singing her favourite French numbers. You quietly sneak in. This Mathematics teacher at the Transition School in Auroville then goes on to sing one her own compositions. She suddenly stops, opens her eyes and goes on to explain what the song is all about. "It's about a dream that I had as a child of eight, about a village that was awakening. It was Auroville."

Taranti and Juliette Katz, an 18-year-old from Paris and the niece of Michel Jonazs, a singer and actor, performed at the Casablanca store recently. They specialise in Soul music.

Taranti means "one who crosses over". So you know what kind of music to expect from her. Fusion! Since she has grown up in Auroville, she also promises to sing a Tamil song and a few English numbers at her next performance.

Though it was Juliette's debut public performance, she seemed at ease rendering some French classics and her own compositions. "I have taken a break from my studies and will be joining university in October to do a course in music. My songs are about my family, life and dreams," says the youngster.

As for Taranti, folk songs with a spiritual touch are fascinating.

The performance was part of "Vanakkam France" celebrations at the store all this month, when French Pondicherrians (nationals) come home for a holiday. You can take a break while shopping and get a French manicure done by a beautician and mehandi applied on your hands. This service is available between August 27 and 31. There will also be a fashion show on August 26. Till August 20, a model hunt is on to spot models for the store's future events.
