Onam Festival at DakshinaChitra till August 27
|
Want to get a taste of Onam as it's celebrated in Kerala? Visit DakshinaChitra, Muttukadu, on any day till August 27. The place wears a festive look with devotional music filling the air, colourful pookolams and lamps lit all over. A group of dancers will perform the vibrant Theyyam which is one of the outstanding folk arts of Kerala. As part of the festival, there will be an exhibition of photographs in the Art Gallery "Kerala: Gods and Men" by Jonathan Watts in collaboration with the Alliance Francaise of Madras. The works of the French photographer will give visitors a glimpse of the rich customs of the State.
At the Calicut House in DakshinaChitra, there will be an exhibition of Ayurvedic medicines and treatments and of spices. The craft shop will display the craft and textile tradition of Kerala. A three-day workshop on mural paintings will be organised from August 25 to 27.
