This August, go for the moon
At this time of the year in China, you will often find people celebrating the August Moon Festival. As part of the ritual, people present moon cakes to each other to foster a spirit of togetherness.
If you are willing to experience a whiff of it without travelling to China, then this piece of news could help. The Dragon restaurant at New Delhi's City Park hotel is hosting the August Moon Festival till this coming Sunday. Jitender Bhardwaj, Manager, Food and Beverages, at City Park, says, "We are trying to give the best menu to our customers as part of the festival. We have included dishes from various parts of China."
The restaurant has also been decorated with a lot of Feng Shui items like bamboo plants, silk lampshades and other objects to create the right ambience.
Among the more delectable dishes are singing chicken (juicy diced chicken cooked in burnt chilly honey sauce) and sweet and sour crispy noodles (crunchy noodles topped with pineapple and vegetables in sweet and sour sauce). Don't forget the moon cake and the delicious fried ice cream. Bhardwaj says there is a plan to include these dishes in the restaurant's regular menu.
D.C. Bhatt, the Executive Chef, adds, "We are making the dishes keeping in mind our customers, and yet giving them a taste of food from different regions of China.'' Giving an idea of the restaurant's versatility, he says, "Before this festival, we had the celebrated biryani and beer combo." But that seems many moons ago!
