Painting Karkidakom
The Orthic Creative Centre conducted a painting camp `Karkidakom' which saw artists such as Sunil Vallarpadam, P. V. Nandan, Rajan M. Krishnan, Ashantan, Satyapal, Thomas Kurishingal, Adarsh Alphons, Minna Philip and Ho Chi Minh gather and paint under one roof. The camp began on August 3 and the exhibition of paintings began on August 15, and will conclude on August 23. Adoor Gopalakrishnan inaugurated the camp. He was felicitated on winning the Padma Vibhushan and the Crystal Pyramid, an award instituted by South Asia Cinema Foundation.
T. Kaladharan says, "by conducting the camp I clubbed August 6, which is Hiroshima Day and August 7, which will read in digital calendar as 7.8.6., which is of significance in Islam." He reiterates that although the painting camp was called `Karkidakom', the artists could work on a wide range of subjects and cover as many issues as possible.
On August 15, there was a discussion on M. V. Devan's book `Swatantryam Kondu Naam Entu Cheythu?' (What did we do with independence?). "The discussion was the first in the series of literary evenings that I am planning. The evening was dedicated to the writer and a work by him." M. Krishna Kumar and Dr Rathi Mohan participated in the discussion.
