MOMENT OF GLORY The winners with actress Laxmirai at the contest
Cookie Man for the first time hosted The Best Baker Contest 2006 for school children across the city. To mark Independence Day celebrations, the cookies baked by the children and celebrity chef Damodaran were auctioned and the proceeds are to be handed over to the Army Relief Fund. The panel of judges comprised Mallika Badrinath, chef Damodaran, actress Laxmirai and actor Kamlesh. The winners were crowned Cookie Man Best Baker 2006 and were given prizes, certificates and trophies.
R. Rakhi and Smirti Amarendran of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Taylor's Road, got the Cookie Man Best Baker prize. N. M. Swetha and R. Archana of Krishnaswamy Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Nungambakkam, were adjudged first runner-up. The winning school, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, got the rolling trophy.
The contest commenced on August 7, when Cookie Man invited 27 schools across the city for a one-hour training session. Around five or six schools visited the Cookie Man plant for the baking session everyday over five days. During the "Dirty your hands" session, the Cookie Man chef Ravi taught aspiring chefs how to mix dough and ingredients together to bake their own cookies.
The students were then subjected to a 15-minute test comprising 10 questions. Based on their answers, two schools were selected to participate in the finals held at the Atrium, Spencer Plaza, Phase III, on August 15.
