MUSICAL TREAT Pandit Jasraj will perform with Carnatic flautist Shashank
Senior Hindustani vocalist Pandit Jasraj will share the stage with young Carnatic flautist Shashank in Bangalore this week. Part of a series of 12 concerts across the country called Jalsa, this programme by the Indian Music Academy (IMA) will be held at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall on August 29, 6.30 p.m.
IMA was inaugurated six years ago in Bombay with felicitations to five stalwarts in the field of music Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Kishan Maharaj, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Vidushi Gangubai Hangal and Lata Mangeshkar. The Jalsa series was started last year to promote a young artiste along with a maestro. The first concert in Hyderabad featured L. Subramaniam and Sanjeev Abhayankar.
The concert in Bangalore, the second in the series, will be followed by an interactive session to be addressed by both the artistes. This, the organisers hope, would help youngsters understand the finer aspects of music. Entry to the concert is free and passes are available at the Gangaram Book Store on M.G. Road and at the venue from today. For details, call 9342585023.
