The term `showroom' sounds plain. But when you are setting up a showroom that's said to be the second biggest of its kind in Asia (as a press invite announced), you probably should go in for a more colourful title. So, the name Sport Performance Centre or SPC given to Adidas' new outlet at Citi Tower in T. Nagar, seems justified.
Covering two floors, the 5,700 sq.ft. space looks large enough to "hold a broad range of athletic footwear, apparel and accessories."
More light was shed on the title when Andreas Gellner, managing director, Adidas India Marketing, made known some of the facilities at the showroom. He demonstrated the functioning of a foot-scan, which displays an image of a foot and recommends the shoe with the right shape, size and material.
According to the distributor for the State, Upendra Bhatia, the showroom's overall format, display of products and allied services "are inspired by sports and performance."
The display blocks indeed resemble running blocks, high jump and weightlifting bars and fitting rooms look like locker rooms.
Exclusivity for women comes in the form of 1,300 sq.ft. that is dedicated to all-woman products. Bhatia says a special section for children might be added to the present space, if there is a healthy demand quotient. Six plasma screens seem to play the role of salespersons, displaying product information.
