What does freedom mean to the youth?

Creating your own space

Freedom to the youth today is not about obeying or disobeying, defying or complying with someone, especially elders, blindly. To them it is a happy understanding with their parents. Freedom is also about building an identity.Life is about a process of self-discovery, and trial and errors are welcome by the youth. Therefore, freedom to them is more about the power of decision-making with a ratifying if not gratifying smile, rather than a frown, from the parents. Freedom is also about trust. Freedom is also the parents' ability to try and accept the changing lifestyles of their children without being judgemental, even if they do not relate to it. However, freedom is not about letting go completely. Inculcating certain values, habits and culture is appreciated by the youngsters, even if not immediately in words, but by their pride when complimented by others.
