To Russia, with love

Cheran is a writer-director-actor who has excelled in making films with subjects close to reality set in a rural milieu. Now he is changing tack to make "Mayakannadi", a film with an urban backdrop, for veteran producer Panchu Arunachalam's son, under the banner Chellamae Celluloid. This time, Cheran has Navya Nair for company and both play hairdressers in an upmarket salon. Cheran sports a new look for "Mayakannadi." The film has music by Ilaiyaraja. The latest we hear is Cheran is going to shoot a song abroad for the first time and that too in the picturesque locales of Russia! Says Cheran: "`Mayakannadi' is a love story for which a dream song will be shot at various historic monuments in Russia."
