A grey garden?

Grey plants make an attractive contrast to the greenery in your garden

GREY ATTRACTION A patch of grey amidst green will make your garden unique

Gardens are normally green. But you can have a patch of grey that makes an interesting contrast, with plants that have silvery-green or bluish-grey foliage.

Low-growing sage, aglaonema, wavy artemisia, succulents such as crassula and various semperviums could form a lovely grey corner. The fat, fleshy leaves of crassula form the base for a spray of startling red or yellow flowers, that last long on the plant. Sage or wild basil are bluish grey and aromatic too.

Low growing silvery syngoniums and begonias could form a mass potted display of silvery foliage, perfect for shady corners.

Barring the ornamental tall grasses, these are all easy-to-maintain, small specimens, requiring just adequate water. They are also pest-free. Multiplication in most cases is easy — just stem cuttings that are planted carefully.

A little bit of thought and planning can go a long way towards creating a unique garden, with plants such as these.
