Kitsch with class

EVENT Kitsch@O was all about being unabashedly funky

A FUN TRIP The catwalk meandered through the dining section and courtyard giving guests plenty of time to absorb details

Fun, funky and fabulous, that's what Kitschy@O was all about when four attractive young women from Delhi put on a show with designer clothes, bags, jewellery and pop memorabilia earlier this week.

The locale was one of the most delightful restaurants in town, the Olive Beach. The white walls and blue windows of this restored bungalow had an extra zest, with the perky designer Cimmaron dressing it up with filmi billboards and bright lights.

Designer sisters Rakhi and Vandana showcased a range of contemporary wear that ranged from the retro romantic feminine frills and laces to sleek ultramodern.

The catwalk by pretty models, choreographed by Ashish Nair, meandered through the indoor dining section and the courtyard, giving guests plenty of time to absorb style, detail, fall of fabric and all such factors that are so important while buying the right dress.

The duo seems to have got the look of the season all right, for we spotted our own charming designer Sanchita Ajjampur wearing a long flowing chiffon top over knee-length tights. The clothes were a refreshing change as they are eminently wearable and there were many potential buyers checking out the display racks.

True to the kitschy theme was a line of bags that just called out to be picked up. Designer Tanu Bagai has chosen to name her label DIR 69, after her very first Maruti car. From shiny gold to vintage embroidery, she has incorporated quilting and patches in her bags.

Cimmaron reigned in a cosy nook flanked by her creations inspired by billboard and calendar art. Her bold "statement" jewellery was the talk of the evening: she had neck chains with silver pendants proclaiming "drama queen" and naughtier tags. Her coasters have imprints of Hollywood and Bollywood stars — she has managed to get one of Big B as Don, all with due permission, of course.

Restaurateur A.D. Singh says evenings such as these are all about offering more than just a dining experience to his regular clientele. From what we could see, the clients were lapping it all up.
