Rahul, up close

After "Jaane Hoga Kya", Rahul Dev is flying high

NOT QUITE THE CONVENTIONAL VILLAIN Rahul Dev

More than half a decade after he made his Bollywood debut, Delhi's very own Rahul Dev is still in demand. He was in the Capital the other day to promote his latest film, Jaane Hoga Kya where he plays a cop yet again.

Having started his career with Champion alongside Sunny Deol in a negative role some years back, Rahul Dev has come a long way. Despite playing a villainous character, this model-tuned-actor from Delhi won accolades for his work in his first film. Continuing from where he left in Champion, Rahul has performed many action oriented roles. Be it the character of a flesh trader in Aashiq or that of a police officer in the Bobby Deol-starrer Bardaasht, he has done a fair job in all the characterisations. He was particularly noticed in films like Asoka, Bardaasht and Agnipankh.

Police officer again

Taking time out from the screening of the film, Rahul says, "As I didn't have a godfather in the industry, I am quite satisfied with the way my career is shaping up." In Jaane... , he plays the role of a police officer. It is a science fiction based on the concept of cloning. Though the storyline of this Alok Srivastava film focus more on the role of a scientist played by Aftab Shivdasani, Rahul says he has no reason to complain. "I have a strong role in the movie where I oppose the idea of cloning and try to stop the scientist from carrying out his experiments," he elaborates.

Having got over with Jaane ... Rahul is currently shooting for Kacchi Sadak, Mukhbir and Benaam. Given a cho ice,he says he would like to play a character older than his age."But if you ask me about one particular role that is close to my heart, it has to be that of Sean Penn in the Hollywood flick, I am Sam," he adds. Rahul also wishes to work with talented directors like Ram Gopal Varma and Vishal Bharadwaj. Fo the moment though Ankush-Glen will do with Jaane Hoga Kya. The future is unseen, the present is busy.
