Sacred made easy

"Sayings From The Vedas" and "Sayings From the Bhagvad Gita" just hit the stands

If Bhagvad Gita and the Vedas interest you, then here are two books, just published by Niyogi Books, absolutely for you. Named, "Sayings From The Vedas" and "Sayings From the Bhagvad Gita", the volumes are compiled by photographer Ashok Dilwali. Both the books have the English and Hindi translations of the Sanskrit slokas clubbed with scenic photographs of mountains and valleys. Says Dilwali, "The Bhagvad Gita is held in the highest esteem not just by the Hindus but illuminated minds across religions have found it very relevant even in present times." Also, the Vedas, he adds, are the oldest scriptures and their messages transcend barriers of race, creed or religion. He feels the wisdom of the Vedas and the Bhagvad Gita are more or less restricted to scholars and the practicing priests. "The present generation is unaware of knowledge contained in them primarily for two reasons. One is, they are written in Sanskrit, a language hardly spoken today, and the other, their composition is terse, archaic and esoteric," he explains.

Dilwali says he has tried to present the verses in contemporary style.

The books were launched by Mike Pandey.
