Opportunity beckons young journalists
If you are a young, bright and dynamic young journalist, here's your ticket to fame. CNN, in association with ITC-Welcome group hotels, has announced the fourth edition of the CNN Young Journalist Award (YJA).
In addition to CNN-YJA, two new categories have been started this year CNN Aspiring Journalist Award (AJA) in collaboration with Hindustan Times and CNN Citizen Journalist Award (CJA) in association with CNN-IBN.
CNN had launched the CNN-YJA award in 2003 in India and Pakistan. The CNN-YJA is given in the television and print/online categories to journalists in the age group of 22 to 28. Entrants for the television category must submit a feature style television news package that has been produced or aired between January 1, 2006 and September 30, 2006.
For the print/online category, the article must be written solely by the individual and been published.
For both categories, the news story must bear relevance to the Indian or Pakistani context. For the CNN Aspiring Journalist Award, the entrant must submit a 1000-word essay on `Are sting operations justified?'
The last date for the receipt of entries for both categories is October 12, 2006. The winner of the CNN-YJA will get a chance to work for a week at CNN's International Headquarters in Atlanta.
The winners of the CNN-AJA in the television category will do an internship with the CNN-IBN bureau and the winner in the print category will get an opportunity to intern at Hindustan Times.
For the CNN Citizen Journalist, an executive jury will judge the entries received and aired by the channel between January 1, 2006 and September 30, 2006.
