If the heady mix of fashion, food, people, music and all things designer at the launch party is any sign of things to come, The Hindu MetroPlus Lifestyle Show is where it is all definitely happening. The countdown has begun for the one-of-a-kind lifestyle show that opens on Wednesday at the Palace Grounds.

V. Kalidas, Vice-President, Advertising,

The Hindu, made a spirited promise at the official launch at Le Meridien: "The Hindu-MetroPlus Lifestyle Show (HMLS) at Palace Grounds is going to be a cocktail of all that's chic." . A serpentine line-up of participants in this lifestyle show have reassured Bangaloreans that they will steer away from the usual humdrum "exhibition" mode and offer a whole lot of innovative and inspired products and services. "Flagging off with HMLS before setting up shop in the city would be the best entrepreneurial decision one can take during the pre-festive season," added Kalidas, as previous HMLS have earlier proved in other cities, with overwhelming response both from exhibitors and shoppers.

R. Sivaram of Classic Polo was quick to add: "We grabbed this opportunity to launch our new range of apparel — shirts, trousers and the denim range — as we wanted to grow further from the `casual tees' labelling. We will have 1,200 leading stores across the country trading our wear and Bangalore alone will have 100 stores dealing with them."

Giving a sneak peek into their new release, Classic Polo brought to light their Swiss Club range and Modal Yarn, when Bangalore models like Jackie Shetty and Pashmina set the ramp on fire in an evening of fashion choreographed by Rahul Dev Shetty. A multitude of stripes were highlighted with contrast black trousers. What followed in the denim show was a hip-hop ramp gig to the Abhishek Bachchan Bluffmaster number "Ek Main Aur Ek Tu Hain" that had the evening's special invitees clapping and cheering on.

Earlier RMKV Silks too presented their novelty — silks in 1,50,000 shimmering colours and a reversible, four-pallu sari.

We said nothing would be a monotony at HMLS, right? Consider this. Terracotta pottery, melamine-coated ware, Egyptian designs and Native American motifs on a superb range of artefacts... all in earth tones and aquatic colours! That's designer Madhu Chandrika's creation of Earthen Symphony. With 10 years of artefacts designing behind her and a team of trained professionals in her workshop, Madhu plans to bring into the exhibition her wall murals in mixed media. "Wood, metal, terracotta, glass, jute and resin play a traditional and abstract game here," she says. Tall floor lamps in bright hues and colour-coordinated centre and side tables are some more eye-catchers in her collection.

And silks just got cooler and hotter with the contemporary S.M. Silks collection. "We are bringing in a hand-embroidered Kanchipuram selection (Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 35,000) to cater to young college-goers and the IT crowd at this MetroPlus Show," says M.S. Manoharan, Managing Director, S.M. Silks. "Genuine Kanchipuram silk has always been our forte, but we have to update ourselves with fashion. So, silver and gold zari designer wear especially being released for Dasara and Deepavali will be showcased at this show." While gold weaves can go up to a cool Rs. 65,000 watch out for stone-studded saris which look like jewels themselves.
