BOLLYWOOD PRESENCE Urmila, Shahid and Kareena in Manish Malhotra creations
Back to the roots: Tarun Tahiliani pays an ode to the exquisite Lucknow chikan work through his creations.
Ranna Gill's clothes deserved a second look for the innovative method in which she used ikat prints, usually confined to thick cotton/handlooms.
She incorporated ikat prints on softer materials and brought out a bright collection. And Meera and Muzaffar Ali's collection, called Kotwara, had a liberal dose of Urdu calligraphy.
Fast forward: Dhoom made biker jackets and accessories fashionable like never before and Dhoom 2 might do the same. Designer Manoviraj Khosla didn't have Dhoom on his mind but nevertheless dedicated his collection to bikers.
What he called an easy-to-wear casual biker range had some funky clothes and headgear. Head turner of a line but definitely not for everyday wear.
Showstopper: Rajesh Pratap Singh. Some of his clothes were wearable while others were indulgent.
The colour palette varied from aqua to citrus shades to lovely pinks, whites and creams. The clothes were feminine, subtle and elegant.
Starry evening: Manish Malhotra signed off in style and as expected had a host of stars walking the ramp for him. Urmila Matondkar, Kareena and Shahid Kapoor did the honours.
The restrained but charming Sanjay Suri, dressed in immaculate whites, took to the ramp for designer Anita Dongre.
So did actress Sameera Reddy. Another star couple who made their presence felt graciously were Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia. Arjun walked the ramp in a white Rohit Bal ensemble while Mehr walked for a few chosen designers.
The last laugh: Film-maker Madhur Bhandarkar spent a lot of time at the Fashion Week, getting a feel of the backstage, designer talk and the works. What is he up to? "I am making a film on the fashion fraternity. It's a relatively untouched area.
I haven't worked on the story but making my observations about how the industry functions," he told us.
So, will he have the last laugh like he did after Page 3?
