African rhythm, pop and trance make it a mixed affair

Greatest Songs Ever: Africa

Various/EMI

Africa is considered to be the birthplace of music with its sounds of the haunting drum that subsequently evolved. And how? In the Caribbean, with a Spanish, British and French influence, the hugely danceable Calypso was born. The next musical generation was bass beat that evolved into reggae. And with the influence of the West Indians, R&B emerged.

While some bittersweet, sultry tunes evolved into the blues and jazz. Artists from the continent Mahotella Queens, Wendo Kolosoy, Geoffrey Oryema, Youssoun Dour and others unite to take the music buff in you through the sounds that represent the soul of Africa. This volume is a part of the The Greatest Songs Ever Series also featuring covers on music from Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, Greece, Italy, France , Spain and more destinations.
