A winner

The big screen director Samuthirakani has brought the extravagance and large canvas of commercial cinema into "Selvi" (Sun TV, Monday to Friday, 9.30 p.m.). This has not only boosted the serial's TRP rating but has shifted the its focus from being a family drama to an action thriller. The story and screenplay writer Raj Prabu has also introduced new characters, who have now been weaved into the story. Besides Radhika Sarathkumar, the protagonist and producer of the serial, other stars such as Saritha, Latha, Venu Aravind and Banu Prakash also make their present felt. It looks like "Selvi", which has completed 400 episodes is here to stay for some more time.

Onam Bonanza

The special Onam programmes telecast on September 5 on Malayalam channels have supposedly notched up record TRPs not only in Kerala but also in other big cities across India. It augurs well for the Malayalam television channels, since this is sure to get them more national ads. The film-based programmes and the telecast of recent hit filmswere the main attractions. But what created waves was Asianet roping in actor Jayaram to read the news. The actor also hosted SS Music's "Connect" with veejay Pooja. An exclusive interview with Kamal Hassan and a live phone-in programme with Vikram, both speaking in Malayalam, were also big hits.

Celebrity dance show

Sony TV now brings the hottest dance show on Indian television, "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" and presents well-known personalities such as Ajay Jadeja, Pooja Bedi, Mahesh Manjrekar and Rati Agnihotri in an all-new role. The show brings together celebrities from different walks of life such as sports, films, fashion and music to perform with professional dance partners. They compete against each other before a live studio audience and three judges (Farah Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shilpa Shetty). "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" will be aired every Wednesday and Thursday at 10.00 pm.
