Harjeet's Pyar Pyar
NMI
`Repetitive' is the defining aspect of Harjeet's Pyar Pyar. The album advertised as Scintillating Punjabi Love Ballads is an odd combination of ballads and balles. Many songs start on a promising note but the promises are not kept.
Songs hint of fine echoes from the past, but the modern beats are synthetic and uninspiring. Some songs seem a fusion of nursery rhymes and classical ragas. Other tracks are dance tunes which best exploit the rhythms of Boney M and the beats of Punjab. They are foot tapping, if bhangara is your passion. Hasna Sikhaya Tune and Sohne Watna Da Pyar are interesting songs with a different beat.
OMKARA
Shemaroo, Rs.399
Barely had we stepped out of the cinema hall after watching Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara, a delectable adaptation of Shakespeare's "Othello", than we got this chance to take the film home. At Rs.399, this DVD might seem steeply priced, but remember real entertainment comes with a price. And Bhardwaj's film is lacking in nothing in comparison with the best adaptations of any classic.
Starring Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor with the much acclaimed Saif Ali Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma, this film strikes you with some crude words, spoken in the Awadhi fashion. But once you get accustomed to the dialect, there is nothing to hold back from unadulterated celebration. It is that kind of film.
And the DVD, which comes with the story of the making of the film, besides a 10-page booklet, is value for money.
