Miniature paintings by Imam Bakhsh Lahori
|
The grandeur of Mughal architecture has inspired many creative endeavours. Poetry, cinema, literature and art have been influenced by the rich and imposing buildings of the Mughals.
Imam Bakhsh Lahori was an artist and a painter from Lahore. His works were deeply influenced by the colour of the Mughal monuments of Lahore. From 1837-39, he was engaged in illustrating the fables of Jean de la Fontaine. Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with the Embassy of France in India is organising an exhibition of Imam Bakhsh Lahori's paintings titled `The Dream of an Inhabitant of Mogul' from October 6 to 21 on the premises of Alliance Française de Trivandrum.
The exhibition, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., is organised around the collection of miniature paintings illustrating the fables of Jean de la Fontaine.
Kaleidoscopes of colours, these exquisite miniatures are a part of the collection of national museums in France. The fables of Jean de la Fontaine, written at the end of the 17th Century, are probably one of the most famous collections of French poems.
Even today, school children recite them all over French territories. They draw their inspiration from the fables of the Panchatantra and the Tutinama, as well as from the ancient Greek fables of Aesop.
