Weavers from West Bengal prove their talent at a show in the city
|
Rang Mahal, an organisation for weavers from West Bengal, is back with its annual exhibition of handloom saris and dress materials, at Sri Sankara Hall, TTK Road.
An embodiment of traditional craftsmanship, the collection that comes in a wide palette - from sea blue and powder pink to sindoor red and basic black, has been specially designed for the festive season.
Some of the highlights of the collection are the nakshi borders, fully woven borders and tapestry-like pallu inspired by traditional and abstract art. Buttis and paisley patterns also perk up the new lightweight traditional range. Blouses and pallus offer attractive contrasts to the otherwise subtle Bengal cotton saris.
Besides the weaves, Rang Mahal has tried different varieties of embroidery on Bengal cotton saris and salwar materials. This range, priced at Rs. 700 and above, is right for those who love wearing saris to parties. The classy jamdani sari with its timeless appeal is yet another attraction at the show.
Woven with deft fingers, the jamdani range combines age-old weaving techniques with modern style sensibility.
For those shopping for dress materials, there are coordinated salwar suits both block printed and hand woven and Shantiniketan patterns. The collection is priced at Rs. 760 and above.
The exhibition is on till October 16.
