ALL THAT SHINE A bejewelled Bappi Lahiri

Well-known music director and singer, Bappi Lahiri is famous for sporting his gold chains and jewellery. Often termed `the Indian Elton John' (John too dons a lot of jewels), ask Bappida about this particular fascination, and he would flash his dimpled smile. "Gold is my luck and I have been wearing it since a very young age," he would say.

In New Delhi with filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar atPC Jewellers recently, Bappida in a well-knitted black suit, as expected, was bejewelled with six gold chains, a lot of heavy rings, bracelets, a gold wrist watch and of course, his trademark dark sunglasses. And yes, he was there not for his music, but to accept the award of "Best Gold Lover of India", the first ever of its kind, given away by the city-based PC Jewellers.

"I am the only person on the globe with such a profound passion for the gold stuff. My fans profusely like it too. Sometimes, I ignore wearing it but my fans insist, `Bappida, do the gold, it adds to your aura!'," he told media persons so proudly.Music being his shot to fame, Bappida, on request, though sung at the event a few lines from Bollywood films like "Goro ki na kalo ki", "Yeh hai Mumbai nagariya tu dekh babuwa" and "Lakh lakh log aake bas jaate hai' from Taxi No. 9211.
