Go moony!
Bored of eating the same old Chinese dishes, noodles, Manchurian, spring rolls and the like? Time then to try out something extra. Ano Tai, the Chinese speciality restaurant at Vasant Continental in New Delhi, is celebrating the August Moon Festival. In China, it is one of the major festivals, a celebration of summer harvest, which falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the lunar calendar. Chinese have a saying that the moon is at its brightest during this period.
So, Master Chef at Ano Tai, Tong Sing Wah has laid out a menu of festival specialities. It is an epicurean delight featuring dishesincluding Pho chi braised prawns with pickled chillies and Sichaap chicken, to name a few. Surprisingly, fried vegetarian spiced duck with sweet and sour sauce is made of bean curd but tastes no less than duck meat. "All the special ingredients like silken tofu, bean curd skin and oyster sauce etc. have come all the way from China," adds the chef.
There is a delightful range to choose from. The appetisers include paper vegetable and tofu soup and banana chicken roll. For the main course, the chef's recommendation is curry-fried rice with vegetables for the vegetarians. Moon cake being a traditional food during this festival, is served in different varieties. The aromatic Chinese tea can be an accompaniment for the teetotallers or else, there is a wide range of Chinese liquors to go with the food. The food festival lasts till October 14.
