UP FOR GRABS Uniqueness of knick-knacks, mind-blowing technology of gizmos and glitter of the jewelry are hard to resist.

Friday dawned bright and sunny for city-dwellers who woke up to a delightful invitation to step into the enchanting world of the first ever Lifestyle Show in the city. The four-day expo, a joint show put up by two most reputed organizations in the newspaper industry, is a venue where creativity blossoms for a cause.

The products at display exude timeless elegance epitomised by style icons and make a new style statement. Television sets, refrigerators, DVD players, washing machines, microwave ovens, sewing machines, audio systems, textiles, herbal medicines, dress material, vacuum cleaners, doormats, gift pieces, fat-reducing massage belts, ladies' collection of stylish footwear and many more vie for attention. Ceramic pottery, glass bowls, candle stands, metal statues, wall sconces, textiles and garments are all a fusion of ethnic charm and contemporary style. Their impressive designs and stylish features are aimed at the trendy young buyers. If the furniture in monotones with subtle colour highlights can add loads of grace to your drawing room, the crystal-etched glass is to liven up the transition spaces in your home.

Harmonious blend

The trendy is rubbing shoulders with the traditional segment and it is for you to pick the best and create magic that refuses to fade.

"Buyers of this city did not let me down during my earlier visits. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed," says Siraj who carted in loads of magnificent carpets from Mirzapur. Vaishali from Gujarat offers the fascinating Cutch craft on saris, dress material and bags. Shanu Khan of Mumbai insists that the quality and affordability of his Italian furniture is matchless. Mariam and Gypsy have come all the way from Tanzania in East Africa to mesmerise the locals with brilliant wooden handicrafts.

Inspired by the season, the makers have used their exquisite styling instinct to design latest patterns that cater to varying requirements of the fashion-conscious. Casual, semi-formal, formal and party wear are fun, fascinating and fashionable. The spacious stall put up right at the entrance by Chennai-based RMKV Wedding Silks, has turned into an irresistible corner for women who have a weakness for exclusivity.

Making most of the festive spirit, the age-old silk unit has come up with offers that are sure to prompt the visitors to splurge on the season's choicest, most unique gifts. A long association with silk has prompted the unit to come up with thematic versions in the weaving patterns that have earned them two national awards. A grand silk sari with 1,50,000 colours sprinkled on it is on sale for Rs. 95,000. There is also a reversible wonder, a single sari with four pallus, four borders and two distinct sides, up for grabs for Rs. 68,000.

In the jewellery section, the focus is on long earrings, thin neckpieces, chokers and chunky bracelets. After a hectic shopping spree when you feel completely fagged out, step into the Lotus Food Court for a scrumptious fare, which includes crisp and crunchy snacks and veg and non-veg food.

The venue encompasses an entire lifestyle that consistently incorporates diverse elements of ethnicity, technology, art and urban life.
