American pianist Sam Rotman will perform solo in Chennai on October 27

RURAL TREAT Sam Rotman
American pianist Sam Rotman will be in Chennai for the first time. He will give a solo recital on October 27, 7 p.m. at The Museum Theatre.
With over 1,600 performances in more than 50 countries to his credit, Rotman has served on the jury of international piano competitions and as director of the D'Angelo School of Music, Mercyhurst College, Pennsylvania.
Rotman, who hails from an orthodox Jewish family, received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music from the prestigious Juilliard School of Music, New York. He was among the winners in five piano competitions held both in the U.S. and Europe the most note-worthy being Laureate Winner in the 4th International Beethoven Competition in Vienna, Austria.
He began studying piano at the age of 9 and became a concert pianist by the time he was 11. Rotman has devoted part of his musical life to the study and performance of the works of Beethoven. Beginning with a series of all-Beethoven concerts in 1970 (the composer's bi-centennial), Rotman continues to perform the works of Beethoven in solo recitals and with orchestras. His recordings include piano music of Beethoven, Debussy and Rachmaninoff.
Admission to the concert is free and on a first-come-first-served basis. Rotman will conduct a workshop for piano teachers at Arul Siromoney's residence (No. 2, Manickeswari Road, Kilpauk) on the evening of October 24, and the following evening he will conduct master classes for students at the MRC centre, Balar Kalvi Nilayam, Vepery.
