Making others go green with envy

The 4 Star rating comes as a feather in the cap of Green Park

LIVING UP TO ITS NAME An imposing view of the hotel

After tickling the taste buds of food lovers of the city through innumerable festivals for nearly a decade, Green Park has bagged the prestigious 4 Star Category from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.

It was no cakewalk for the hotel which was earlier in the 3 Star Category, to take the giant step forward. Service standards, hygiene, cleanliness, customer satisfaction, food quality and comfort levels are some of the areas which are among the criteria for awarding a higher category.

A team from the Hotel and Restaurant Approval and Classification Committee (HRACC) inspected the hotel thoroughly with special emphasis on the kitchen, garbage disposal system, hygiene and toilets.

"We have recently set up a gym, upgraded the rooms and earmarked 10 rooms as non-smoking rooms, one restaurant as non-smoking restaurant and all public areas as no smoking zones in tune with the mandatory requirements of a 4 Star hotel," says its general manager K. Mohan Krishna.

Provision of a ramp for the convenience of physically challenged guests and special parking for them are a must under the new classification and the hotel has provided them. Special facilities have also been provided in one bathroom attached to a guest room for the convenience of physically challenged persons.

Green Park has recently launched Wi-Fi facility in the hotel for the benefit of guests though it's not mandatory. With this, it has become the first Wi-Fi enabled hotel in the city. The facility enables guests to use their laptops from any location within the hotel premises, be it the lobby, lawns, terrace or restaurants without the need to plug in.

"Impressed by the new facility, the classification committee is now planning to make the new facility mandatory for all hotels of 4 Star and above categories," says Mr. Mohan Krishna with a sense of pride.

"The committee was also impressed by the courteous service of the staff and feedback from customers.

The awards won by the hotel during the past nine years at the state and national levels have also helped it in getting the new status," he says.

It has also bagged the `Excellence' award of the Department of Tourism, Government of AP, for the year 2005-06.

"More than the Stars, we value our customer satisfaction and support and would leave no stone unturned to win them over," says Mr. Mohan Krishna when asked whether getting 5 Star status would be the next target.
