Ravi Verma on an exciting journey in the industry
|
You can see the excitement in his eyes when he's on the set. It's a different kind of rush. "Acting is like a drug. My priority is to do good work. At the end of the day each artiste has their own journey to cover, and peak at different points in their career. I'd rather look at my career and find benchmarks for myself and improve," says Ravi Verma.
He had a spectacular debut in Deva Katta's Vennela . He was hailed as one of the most promising actors, given the fact that he held his own against the consummate Raja.
Ravi Verma is a trained Kathak dancer and had done Bhangra for eight years. He loves singing, paints and is also a voracious reader. A product of CBIT, he had been to the US to study acting but became a Systems Engineer instead. He met Deva by chance and bagged the role in Vennela. Ravi says, "Ups and downs are part of every actor's repertoire. I had done Bommarillu and Nuvve is on the verge of release, I'm acting as Mahesh Babu's friend in Sainikudu and NTR's brother-in-law in Rakhi. I can't measure my life by a few Fridays. I want to enjoy all my 365 days. I'm doing it all."
About his career, Ravi says that he's given himself a few years from now to achieve his goal. He says, "I've no image, I'm marginal. To the mainstream actors, image is more important than their integrity as actors. I've never treated a single shot with disrespect, I can never get smug on screen. An actor has to take his character as far as it needs to go. When people say I was real in Vennela, I was thrilled. Even director Krishna Vamsi saw it and I was promised a movie by him. I want to play all kinds of roles, the good, the bad and the ugly."
With no controversies or link-ups dogging him, the media today considers him to be a decent guy who does not believe in late nights, partying or pub hopping. Is he for real? "Well I'm happy to be to termed a good, sober guy. But believe me, that's entirely true." Ask him if he's married, he flashes a mischievous grin, evades and then adds as an afterthought. "I'm a god fearing person... a Siva bhakta." It is get set and go for the dynamic youngster and we are waiting at the finish line.
