Designs on film

Sanjana Jon looks forward to her directorial debut

Fashion as medium Sanjana Jon.

If you thought fashion was her middle name, the plethora of activities that she is involved with proves otherwise. Sanjana Jon has masters in psychology and sociology, as also fashion merchandising, marketing and fashion photography. "When you are into visualisation, fashion becomes a medium," says the high priestess of adornments and now prêt.

Sanjana stepped into the limelight when she joined brother Anand Jon with her designer jewellery and subsequently debuted on Cannes, only to continue designing ensemble for the royalty. "It has been a nice balance of working with celebrities and royalty," she says.

Adding verve to her work the diva plans to take on the celluloid world next. "I will be directing a film shortly. We plan to shoot the film in India. The outfits will be a part of it. The shooting is slated for Fall 2007. We have award winning artiste Antonio (Cannes) acting in the film. William Gibson, who is filming the documentary on our current tour will also join me on the film," she says.

Titled Seventh Descendent, the feature film will be an intriguing take on spirituality and mysticism. "Seven is a very significant number. It is about the Fallen Angel. I come from an imaginative realm. Visual representation is very important," says the designer.

But philanthropy will remain close to her heart she says. After working with Manoj. N. Shyamalan (for his Udavum Karangal) and other celebrities on various charitable causes, the recent AIDS/HIV awareness tour is where she finds herself tirelessly working— hopping cities pan India in a short time.

"We have been working with Miss Universes to promote the cause. The concept struck me when I met Papa Vidyasagar and found that AIDS was reaching dangerous proportions here. Now we have support from NGOs such as Cure In Us as also UN affiliation for our work. There is celebrity support as well.

Last year Salman Khan was part of the AIDS awareness campaign and the response was whopping. I saw Jaan-E-Man. It was virtually pleasing. I told the same to Salman bhai (Salman Khan) when I went to his place for Eid. I am planning to take the girls (touring international models) for the film," says an upbeat Sanjana even as she flips through the hectic schedule ahead.
