Designer cards featuring pen and ink drawings of heritage monuments

Capturing the architectural splendour of historical monuments in pen and ink drawings is what Chennai-based artist Manohar Devadoss excels in. But, what makes these drawings special, is that the artist is able to delineate all the details despite failing vision.

Using Manohar's drawings, his wife Mahema designs greeting cards every year, each with a brief text, which gives a historical perspective of the monument on the card. Over the years, the cards have become collector's items.

The proceeds from the sale of cards is given to service organisations such as Aravind Eye Hospital, Sanakra Netralaya and SPASTN. Apart from the money the cards generate, hopefully they create among the recipients a greater awareness of our heritage and the need to preserve our historical monuments.

This season five designs are being presented - the Armenian Church, the old lighthouse in Chennai, Thiruneermalai (near Chennai), the Thirumalai Nayak Mahal in Madurai and the elegant but fast vanishing street houses of Madurai.

The cards with matching envelopes are priced at Rs. 11.50 a card for orders over 2,000, Rs. 12.50 a card for 1,000 and above, Rs. 14.50 for 500 and above and Rs. 16 for 10 and above.
