Internet TV
Non-resident Indians, especially those from Mangalore, will shortly have access to video clippings of various events taking place in and around the city. Thanks to an initiative taken by Daijiworld.com, a local web portal, netizens across the world with broadband connection will have access to Internet television on their website under the brand name TV Daijiworld from the first week of January.
Recognising Internet as a fast-growing segment of the media; promoters of Daijiworld.com have decided to take this step. They started in 2001 with the intention of promoting only Konkani but the portal's popularity resulted in more and more innovations. According to Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief and CEO, the portal made forays into Maharashtra, Goa and other parts of the Konkan coast by the time it made its presence felt locally. It now enjoys the patronage of over one-lakh readers.
"A television channel on the desktop is very much feasible, and absolutely a must. The Internet TV trend is picking up very fast and Mangaloreans should not lag behind in this aspect. TV Daijiworld will be online by first week on January and we are also planning to start an Internet radio station, Radio Daijiworld, in the coming weeks," says Nandalike. Initially, the TV will run only for a few minutes a day, but can be accessible anytime during the day on demand. Eventually the time slot will be increased. A round-the-clock online TV channel is his goal.
