If Gulzar, A.R. Rahman and Mani Ratnam come together after a decade, they've got to have something special. And they do. Guru is an album you won't regret buying. Each song captures varied moods and is set in radically different situations. Shreya Ghosal opens with Barso Re, a song you'll hum quickly. The beats and the lyrics match the rural setting in the 1950s and 1960s. Tere Bina, by Rahman and Chinmayee, comes next. Don't debate on whether Rahman's voice will suit Abhishek Bachchan. It's the pick of the album. The melody lingers even after the next song takes over. Bappi Lahiri and Chitra tickle your curiosity with Ek Lo Ek Muft. Then comes some spice Mayya (Maryam Toller, Chinmayee and Keerthi), the song picturised on Mallika Sherawat. Reminiscent of old club numbers, the Middle-Eastern beats here are world apart from that of Tere Bina. Hariharan comes up with another good number Ay Hairathe with Alka Yagnik. The fast-paced Baazi Laga (Madhushree, Udit Narayan and Shweta Bhargavee) follows. Guru ends with Jaage Hain (Chitra and Rahman). Listen in for the clever orchestration.
