Mixed bag

For Tollywood, 2006 was a mixed year with nearly 100 releases. The biggest hit was "Pokiri" which made young hero Mahesh Babu the numero uno star. The other super hits of the year were "Lakshmi", "Bommarillu","SriRamadasu" and "Devadasu".

The average grossers were "Stalin", "Vikramarkudu", "Godavari", "Style", "Ranam" and "Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw". Youthoriented films with good music and a stylish presentation worked wonders at the boxoffice, while formulaic films of superstars bombed miserably. Telugu cinema also found a huge market in the cities of Chennai and Bangalore and overseas in North America and Canada.
